Havelock North Intermediate delivers an exciting and diverse literacy programme, with targeted teaching based on relevant assessment information. The tools we use to develop our teaching and learning programmes are proven to be successful and are designed to improve all students’ outcomes.
During the year, students will engage in and enjoy reading and writing in all its forms, while developing and enriching their literacy skills. Students will learn to understand and respond to and use oral, written and visual language effectively in a range of meaningful contexts. Literacy learning is interwoven with all areas of the Havelock North Intermediate curriculum. Students at Havelock North Intermediate have the opportunity to learn Chinese Mandarin as another language-learning opportunity.
Students who are gifted or talented in literacy domains are all catered for in the classroom by differentiated teaching and learning opportunities. The education and fostering of gifted students is a highly complex area. Striking the balance between the needs of the students, the classroom, and of course social development is something we strive for. Havelock North Intermediate provides additional opportunities to cater for gifted students which allow for depth and challenge.
These include:
Differentiation in the classroom
